Hi everyone, I own an HP Probook 430 G8 and a J5 Create 4K webcam. When I connect the webcam and use it in the camera app, everything functions fine. However, when I try to use it through Teams, Chrome, or WhatsApp, it doesn’t work. The IT team said nothing seems wrong with the laptop, but they mentioned a possible issue with the USB port and voltage. Is there a workaround? I really like having the webcam instead of the built-in one for client demos, especially with the 4K capability! The webcam supports USB and a USB-C adapter, but both my personal PC and the laptop have worked. During calls, the feed appears in apps but freezes afterward. I considered a voltage booster, though I’m worried it might affect data transmission. Webcam link: https://en.j5create.com/collections/webc...ts/jvcu435 Updated Jan 2, 2023 by Gurky

Are there any other laptop components connected during webcam use? I wouldn't expect a voltage problem since the specs match 5V/500mA and USB 2.0 is supported. Higher versions like USB 3.0+ and C should work fine too.

The cable appears to be intact, but it's connected to a lengthy extension.

No devices connected at all. I didn’t use a USB ring light; it was already plugged into my PC for fewer cables.

It may fail to display properly or result in a blank screen when integrated into an app like Teams.

I notice myself on the display for a moment before it halts and turns dark. The game doesn't stop or fail.

Here are some adjustments to your statement:

- There are two possible explanations for the issue, one related to the driver and another concerning the power supply or connection.
- To check, use OBS Studio (free version) to add the camera as a media source and launch the virtual camera feature. This will let you see if the camera is functioning properly.
- If it doesn’t work or causes problems, consider two options: first, update the camera drivers and verify the firmware; second, investigate potential issues with power delivery or cables—especially whether the problem occurs when the laptop is on battery versus when it’s plugged in. Many devices reduce voltage to USB ports when running on battery, which could affect performance.
- Running at a lower resolution such as 720P might help, though 4K support isn’t guaranteed. Laptops often struggle to scale higher resolutions due to hardware limitations. You could test with a high-resolution screen (like a TV) to determine the maximum usable resolution for external displays.
- Your hypothesis seems reasonable—if the camera exceeds the system’s capabilities, scaling back to a more compatible resolution would likely resolve the issue.

I’ll call IT tomorrow to have the app installed so I can review the drivers we used before, but it didn’t work. It might be that my PC isn’t powerful enough—only an i5-1135G7 with 8GB RAM. Since I’m always on charge at home and all power limits are off, I’ll test a TV and see what happens!

He noted the camera functions smoothly in the built-in camera app, which makes it hard to pinpoint a power problem. Within the camera application, you should navigate to settings and check the resolution the laptop uses for the camera.
