Hi everyone, I have an old 100mb link from the office to the living room. Because I need to upgrade the connection to gigabit speeds, I was considering switching to fiber. I currently use a UDM Pro connected via a cat 6 cable to the GPN on WAN 1, and then to the living room using one of the 8 gigabit ports on the built-in switch. My question is: Can I simply plug the fiber from my ISP into the WAN 2 port (SFP+)? What equipment do I need to buy (excluding the fiber itself) to link the UDM via fiber from the office to the living room, which has other RJ45 devices? Looking ahead, I plan to install a full-sized fiber switch under the UDM Pro later. I'm in Europe—this might be useful to know. Edited January 2, 2022 by Daniel Consuegra

Typically you can't link GPON straight to SFP+ directly. Converters are available, but your ISP usually won't permit pairing your device. I'm currently using a Netgear MS510TXPP 8-Port Multi-Gigabit Smart Managed Pro Switch as my main switch; the MikroTik CRS305-1G-4S+IN could be more affordable if you need fewer ports.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll skip the online part for now and proceed... I'll go ahead and check that switch out. Appreciate it!

I referenced the Mikrotik because media converters tend to be expensive; maybe a different choice would suit you better. If you need multiple copper ports, you should also think about the cost of SFP adapters.
