I own an outdated laptop that no one around uses anymore. It struggles with running Windows 10, so I’m thinking about switching to Linux to test performance. As a beginner, I’m considering Mint OS and Elementary OS. Could anyone recommend a good Linux distribution for someone just starting out? Even if it’s not exactly what I mentioned, any suggestions would be appreciated. Your laptop details: CPU – Intel i3 380M, RAM – 4GB DDR3, Storage – WD HDD with 300GB. Also, I’ve been using Elementary OS in a virtual machine on another computer for a week now. If that works well, it would be perfect.

most basic operating systems and Linux Mint lean more toward heavier distributions. For a lighter option, consider Lubuntu or Manjaro KDE.

for a simple start, try manjaro xfce or kde—it’s user-friendly and comes with excellent documentation. lubuntu is also straightforward but isn’t as smooth as manjaro.

I hadn't attempted Linux before and was curious about the changes. After installing Manjaro XFCE, I was able to use the laptop again. Appreciate your assistance!
