You're looking for a network solution that supports two rooms with Ethernet access, wireless connectivity, and up to four Ethernet ports per room. You're considering two options: purchasing two routers separately or using Ubiquiti APs with a switch. Given your budget of under $1000 AUD and the need for coverage in a two-story home, the AP setup might be more practical. Three APs would provide better coverage and flexibility, especially with your budget constraints.

It's clear to say... choose Ubiquiti. The Lite edition works just as well. I manage three Lite units and they deliver excellent signal and coverage. Gather all the wired connections in each area you need, but don’t cut corners on wireless. UniFi offers top performance since it’s built for commercial-grade mesh networks.

Roaming between APs can be frustrating. Ubiquti seems to have a better approach that functions well. Seeking a compatible solution across various routers will be extremely difficult. Are you considering running four Ethernet cables per room or will you be using a switch in each one?

I planned to cover two rooms, assigning one for the access point and another for the switch. Alternatively, I could set up routers as described in the tutorial at savjee.be. One router would handle Wi-Fi and Ethernet for devices like Xbox, servers, etc., while the other would connect directly to the main router using the primary device—my PC.

As you mentioned earlier, for moving between APs using two routers isn't recommended. Otherwise, it should function properly.
