Configure your home network for optimal performance.
I chose to refresh and rebuild my network just for some enjoyment and to gain a bit of knowledge. Since I’m not very experienced, my previous configuration had a main router plus a second router acting as an access point. Now I have a setup like this: Router | Network Switch-------{-----NAS/Server (Windows PC) | ----Router-----Computer |----PC I want to reach the NAS from another device, but I only see the connected computer on the same router. I believe it would be easier to connect the internet directly to the router rather than through the switch and router, though my home layout makes that tricky. Is it feasible to share files among all devices linked to this switch? Perhaps some adjustments to the router settings are needed. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. If you have any details about the specs, feel free to share them later.]
Having several routers adds complexity instead of simplifying the setup. The ideal order is modem first, then router, followed by devices and switches.
It doesn’t really affect whether it’s just a small Wi-Fi booster. You might try adjusting the placement or checking connections, and see if changing the settings helps improve performance.
You can switch between two networks, but it can make things look messy. If you need extra Wi-Fi, use an access point instead of a router.
