Configure SMC managed switch VLANs Adjust network segmentation using VLAN settings on the SMC managed switch.
I’m just starting out with this setup and need some guidance. I bought an SMCGS-50P managed switch and set up a VLAN for my flat in PFSense. I assigned specific ports from the flat to their own VLAN IDs and enabled DHCP with a range for that VLAN. I also configured a firewall rule to let internet traffic through but block it from my local LAN. However, my laptop connected to the flat can’t get a DHCP lease or access the internet, even though I know the ports are correctly configured.
Ensure the port linking the switch to PFSense functions as a trunk port
Do you have a layer 3 SVI or gateway IP address for that extra VLAN? The DHCP scope is incomplete if there's no SVI on that VLAN. You'd also have to trunk from the switch to pfsense. Without tagged traffic into pfsense there's no DHCP service to offer in that broadcast domain.
