They can be considered identical. Virtual servers offer greater precision since they were designed for this purpose from the start. Reachability through a server behind a NAT works better, just like port forwarding reflects NAT behavior. Talking about names!

Uncertain about your service provider. However, all U.S. cellular carriers employ CGNAT. This might be the reason you're experiencing issues.
