Hi, your brother managed to open the RAM slots 2 and 3 on his motherboard. He doesn’t have the funds for a replacement yet, so I’m checking if there are any issues beyond slower performance when using dual slots in channels 1 and 4. Appreciate your help!

If that's the only choice you have, you're left with no other options except to proceed. The positive side is you'll likely achieve similar performance as in a standard 2+4 setup. Typically, slots 1 and 2 are on one channel while 3 and 4 are on the other, allowing dual channel operation even though modules remain on both channels. It seems the advice to stick with 2+4 rather than other configurations comes mainly from wiring and termination considerations. There could be a marginally greater risk of issues with very high-speed or tightly timed modules, but I don't think that's a major concern.

Sure, the slower speed is the drawback. Both sticks would operate in a single channel.

They fit together in one channel, which means less bandwidth usage. The usual setups are 1+3 and 2+4, while 1+4 and 2+3 are mostly found with two modules in the same channel. I might have made a mistake earlier—let me verify.
