Yesterday I saved a file promising to set up Dolby Atmos on my machine. I doubted it at first because it wasn’t an .appx package, but after checking with BitDerender the files looked fine. I opened it and saw nothing unusual—no UAC prompt, no setup window, and Atmos wasn’t installed. When I revisited it, the task manager showed multiple Command Prompt instances running. At that moment, antivirus software blocked the file. I ran MalwareBytes and found a deleted file named dup2patcher.dll in Loca/Temp. I restarted my computer, but Bitdefender blocked access to hidden files and locked my drive. When I tried to launch Bitdefender by double-clicking its icon, the other windows would flash briefly before it opened. This only occurred when I double-clicked Bitdefender, suggesting something might be wrong with the antivirus. I recorded a video of the event, thinking my explanation was unclear. Later, when I attempted to restart, a process called CoreSync::musync::WSystemObserverImp blocked the reboot. I searched for it and thought it might relate to Adobe software, but since this never happened before, I feared a broader issue. Today I ended all running tasks and checked CPU usage via Task Manager—it stayed low, rarely reaching 3%. I’m concerned the Bitdefender issue could be tied to a virus and wonder if formatting my PC or removing it would help. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks ahead.

I'd be cautious about handling files one by one, but instead I'd move important data off the machine and set up a fresh Windows installation. It's not easy or enjoyable, but safer to be prepared.

I don't have any additional hard drive for backing up my files. A Linux bootable USB could format the damaged one, then format the other and restore the data. Would that work? EDIT: Or you could format the SSD instead, as it's very slow and I'm worried it might fail. Thanks! I assumed this but was concerned. Edited March 22, 2021 by mikhailivankov

I set up my PC, compressed vital files, stored them on the SSD, reformatted the other drives, and then reinserted everything back onto the original hard drive. The Bitdefender icon problem was resolved, and I ran scans with Malwarebytes and Bitdefender. I also used rkill and ADW Cleaner, all results came back clean. However, today the Bitdefender icon issue resurfaced again. I haven’t encountered anyone with the same problem, which is causing me concern about potential antivirus interference despite my efforts.
