Hello everyone,

Here is my current setup:
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits
- i7 4790k processor
- 16 GB DDR3 RAM
- Asus Q87M-E motherboard
- SSD 128Go
- One SSD for storage
- One HDD for backup

I'm facing some serious performance issues over the past ten days. It started suddenly and I'm not sure what caused it. My computer is used for music production and photo retouching, and it's completely offline. The boot process is extremely slow, often taking about 10 minutes on the desktop. Opening Reaper takes around 30 minutes (about 5 minutes before the issue began), and loading my project with multiple crashes takes another 30 minutes. This slowness occurs consistently whether I'm using Lightroom or Reaper.

I've already tried several solutions:
- Running a virus scan
- Using CHKDSK
- Checking for RAM issues
- Updating Windows 7
- Cleaning up disk space (reduced from 117GB to 20GB)
- Ensuring the fans are working properly
- Attempting a Windows troubleshooter

Recently, I attempted to reinstall a plugin that Reaper couldn't locate anymore. The error message was "i/o device error." I tried installing it on both SSDs, but the problem persisted in each case. I suspect it might be related to a disk issue, though CHKDSK didn't detect anything.

I've done many things and still don't understand what's happening. I'm not very experienced with computers, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

When the C drive SSD becomes full it begins to slow down. 90% capacity is quite limited. Consider replacing it with a Samsung 870 EVO, which offers 250gb for $40 or 500gb for $65. Transfer your C drive to the new SSD and swap in the old one. Utilize the Samsung SSD migration aid. For assistance, see the app and manual here: Tool & Software Download | Samsung Semiconductor Global. More info at semiconductor.samsung.com

Thank you for your reply.
I already own another SSD purchased some time ago, but my plugins were already set up on the first one (which was smaller). I’m wondering if the 20GB space might be contributing to the slowness? After all, I’ve had this amount of space for a couple of years without any major changes, and everything worked well until last week.

I think I've identified the problem! It wasn't listed in Crystal Disk. So I powered off the PC, unplugged the disk, and then reinserted it. Now everything works properly! It's strange and I'm not sure if the HDD is damaged, but everything looks fine on Crystal Disk.
