It sounds like you're facing a tricky situation with your Ryzen 5 setup. You might want to carefully try removing the CPU yourself using a proper method, or consult a professional technician to avoid further damage. If you're unsure, returning the board could be the safest option.

we need some images of this setup... take out the stick close to the CPU and gently shift it slightly to the right

I included an image in the initial message, but adjustments to the retention arm haven't resolved the issue.

Raise the small tool you used to place the CPU, then remove it.

I've adjusted the arm in various orientations, but it still doesn't move when the computer is upright or on its side.

It seems you encountered issues with pins misaligned if they bent. The socket should shift slightly when adjusting the arm. If problems persist, applying upward pressure can help extract the CPU. I also had to carefully pull a few from a ZIF socket while it was attached to a cooler, but it didn’t damage anything. Avoid twisting the CPU during removal.

Consider using a suction cap to establish better contact.

Others mentioned the socket requires no force to insert, so some have installed Ryzen CPUs along with their coolers. You might consider removing the CPU instead.

You might attempt to gently glide two plastic cards (such as a credit card) beneath the green PCB on either side and try to extract them.
