Hello. My computer becomes sluggish after hours of use.
This seems unusual but I’ll try to clarify what’s happening.
Everything worked well for three years, but gradually it started to slow down. Now it’s so slow that even copying files or opening folders takes a few seconds.
Initially, the issue was copying from the E: drive to C: drive. It took about an hour, sometimes at 50 MB/s and other times not moving at all. I checked the disk and replaced it because it was very old. Things improved after that.
Later, after a few days, the computer slowed down again across almost all tasks. When I used VLC with copy-paste files, I had to wait endlessly before opening folders or apps.
I performed a fresh Windows setup. For a short time everything ran smoothly and quickly, but then it returned to slow performance :-(
I also ran a DDU driver uninstall and reinstalled all the AMD and CPU drivers. Everything improved significantly.
However, now it’s once again becoming slow :-(
Other actions I took:
- Ran a virus scan – no results.
- Changed the thermal paste.
- Checked temperatures: the motherboard shows 35, which is normal, but the CPU shows 43, which is the maximum allowed.
I have a few questions:
- Should I replace my C MMV drive, even though it’s an SSD? It might be damaged.
- How can I investigate this issue further?
Configuration details:
- ASRock B450 Steel
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600
- DDR4 Corsair 3200 x 2 on slots 2 and 4
- AMD Radeon RX6600
- One NVME drive for the OS and two Seagate drives for data.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

You may wish to specify the brands and models of your storage drives. BIOS version for your motherboard? The make and model of your power supply and its age? What operating system are you using? Details about your case and the temperatures during slowdowns? Regarding temperatures, what cooling method are you employing for the processor?
