CPU: AMD Ryzen 5700x
CPU cooler: Lian Li Galahad 240mm AIO
Motherboard: ASUS TUF b550 plus (wifi)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 32gb 3600mhz
SSD/HDD: Samsung 980 PRO 1tb
GPU: Zotac RTX 3070
PSU: Corsair 750w Platinum SFX less than 2 years old
Chassis: Lian Li O11d Mini
OS: Windows 11
Monitor: MSI 120hz Monitor 1920x1080

My main concern is that the system will reach the BIOS after resetting the CMOS, yet it won’t boot to Windows even with zero BIOS settings. However, the white VGA indicator will always appear. I suspect a driver problem—yesterday the machine functioned perfectly in this setup, despite prior instability. Occasionally, I’d see random artifacts, usually lines at the bottom of the screen, but they eventually ceased. This started to affect the system seriously.

Before it fully stopped booting, there were issues during gaming sessions (benchmarking didn’t help). The computer would freeze completely, almost as if an image was stuck on the screen, yet it remained off. Later, it would randomly fail—first when opening File Explorer, then a few weeks later, and eventually it would simply not boot at all.

This situation has been ongoing for over a year now. I’ve given up because nothing seemed to work. I initially thought it might be a GPU problem, so I tried an older RX550, but it still wouldn’t recognize the BIOS after resetting.

I’m really confused and would appreciate any advice or guidance you can offer. Thank you very much for your help! ❤️

Motherboard: ASUS TUF b550
Asus offers several B550 chipsetted boards under the TUF brand; which one are you using? I also inquired about the BIOS version installed on your motherboard.

GPU: Zotac RTX 3070
+
PSU: Corsair 750w Platinum SFX, less than 2 years old
The RTX 3000 line is recognized for its strong transient load demands;

Users were recommended to overprovision PSU capacities and to consider a well-built unit. I suggest obtaining a higher-wattage, dependable board if the problem continues.

I thought it was the x570 model concerning the BIOS, though I'm not entirely certain which one. However, I updated it to the newest version around November 2024. The ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi) features AM4 Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 and 3rd Gen Ryzen ATX motherboard with PCIe 4.0, Dual M.2, 12+2 with Dr. MOS Power Stage. This is what appears on the Amazon listing and in relation to the power supply I have—a 850-watt gold-rated cooler master SFX unit that I initially installed but later swapped out for a 750-watt PSU to address any performance problems.

The 3070 usually shows power spikes around the 250w range, which isn't very relevant in this case. The 3090 seems to be another matter altogether.
Hey there,
Much of what you mention suggests a problem with the PSU. Do you have another component you can replace for testing? If not, consider visiting a nearby repair shop to replace the PSU with a better one and see if that resolves the issue. Additionally, some of your problems could be related to the GPU. Ensure it is properly seated. Remove it, clean the contacts using an ISO solution, then reinstall it. After that, test again. (When the GPU is out, use compressed air to blow into the fans and between the shroud.)
On your BIOS/CPU setup, version 3621 is outdated. You may update it and clear the CMOS by shorting two pins on the motherboard while the CMOS battery is disconnected.
Are all system drivers current, including the chipset? If not, you'll need to update them before proceeding with troubleshooting.

I updated it to the newest version in November 2024. Are you currently using Version 5021? To be clear, a power supply will gradually lose efficiency over time, causing its actual output to drop. This decline depends on how much stress the PSU receives and the operating temperatures. Sudden spikes in demand or excessive heat can speed up its failure. If your Corsair unit is about two years old, what’s the age of your Coolermaster unit? Also, it’s worth noting that some Coolermaster models have been reported to misstate wattage on their PSUs for a long time.

The timeline is a bit unclear. Initially, there were problems weeks ago; yesterday the system would completely stop unless you reset the BIOS through CMOS, right? Please tell me your current BIOS version, when you updated it, and whether it’s actually the latest. Also, please revise your first post—it still shows b550. The screen goes black after booting? There are no other indicators besides the white VGA LED? Have you checked any components closely? Could an issue from hardware failure be the cause? There is a troubleshooting FAQ about booting on this page, if I remember correctly. I’ll add a link once I locate it. Added later: I can’t find it.
