Computer fails to start and begins sounding alarms at home, yet functions properly when taken to a repair service...
I'm dealing with a frustrating problem on my PC. It won't start at all, showing nothing on the screen and emitting one long beep followed by two short ones. This issue started after I swapped one of the drives.
I brought it to a repair shop, which fixed it in a day and cleaned everything up. They told me they couldn't test booting into Windows because there was no boot drive. When I got it home, connected it, and tried again, the same problem persisted. I even tried powering it on just the power supply, but it remained unresponsive.
Later, I returned it to the shop, and they said nothing seemed wrong. They plugged it in, turned it on, and it booted normally up to the "Insert bootable media" stage without any beeps. They suggested the problem might be with my power cable.
I replaced the power cable with a new one and connected it to a different socket. The issue still occurred. I even tested at a neighbor's place to check for wiring issues, but it didn't change.
It's puzzling because the repair shop worked perfectly for them, yet the problem reappeared within minutes of me getting home. It doesn't make sense! They said it worked immediately when plugged in, and there were no signs of damage during transport.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
In such situations is it usually a problem with your electrical system? If the problem affected one neighbor's home, it would suggest an issue on the service side. I'm not sure how to handle that with the utility provider. My friend bought a prebuilt PC and had the same problem until it arrived at my house. It would start up without issues, but after using the battery backup, it would sometimes stop working again. He brought both the PC and the backup to my place, plugged everything in overnight, and it worked well for long periods. However, occasionally the backup caused problems, and the issue would return. An electrician found that a rodent had damaged the circuit.

If the issue persists while using another computer, it’s likely the GPU or display card isn’t the cause.
Can you try using different video cables to see if the problem remains?
If it still occurs, check whether a monitor works with another known functional one.
