Computer fails to power on post-shipping, with a beep suggesting RAM isn't detected
I sent my PC across the country wrapped in anti-static bubble wrap and layered with bubble wrap plus styrofoam. This method helped me three times before this attempt, but not this time. Some plastic components from the front panel of my case broke off, and it didn’t power on upon arrival.
Initially, the CPU and PSU fans spun, but the case fans didn’t. The motherboard displayed an orange light without any beeps, and nothing appeared on the screen. After repositioning everything—replacing RAM, GPU, CPU, and resetting the cable connections—I removed the CMOS battery for five minutes. I also did something questionable: the orange light indicated a RAM problem, so I pulled RAM from another PC to test. Unbeknownst to me, it was DDR3, and I wasn’t sure if it fit the DDR4 slots, but I forced it in.
Now, the situation is similar—PSU and CPU fans spin, but case fans remain silent. Instead of a blinking orange light, I receive a single long beep followed by two short beeps repeatedly. The motherboard manual advises: "One continuous beep followed by two short beeps then a pause (repeated): No memory detected." I replaced the RAM with new DDR4 sticks, but the issue persists. Am I dealing with a faulty motherboard? Could another factor be responsible? Are there other steps I should try? Should I consider taking it to a repair shop, or is this a permanent issue?
Long and two short beeps; long beep followed by two short beeps. Booting causes one long beep then two short ones. Search results suggest a video card issue, but both my 5850 and the onboard card didn’t resolve it. Tested DVI and HDMI connections. Any other suggestions or is this a faulty board?
