Computer experiencing a blue screen and automatic restart.
Hello,
I’m facing some issues with my PC recently. I hope someone can assist me.
First, I built this computer about two years ago without any problems until a month ago. Then, a month back, the PC began showing a blue screen and would restart immediately. I reformatted my SSD using the Windows installation media and reinstalled Windows multiple times, but the blue screen still appeared only when installing Windows or when viewing the motherboard’s BIOS—never during normal use. It appears only on the login screen or after logging in. The screen shuts down quickly, making it impossible to capture a photo of it.
Once I logged into Windows, the blue screen would appear, preventing me from updating the system or drivers.
Update: A computer engineer advised that the problem might be hardware-related. I replaced my RAM and power supply, but they were either not faulty or didn’t get replaced. I then removed the motherboard, processor, and SSD for replacement. I discovered that the heatsink and thermal paste on my AMD processor had disappeared or were almost gone. After sending the motherboard in for repair, it was out of warranty due to a purchase invoice issue. They cleaned the dust but didn’t replace the parts.
I haven’t sent the processor or SSD yet. I’m considering taking the whole PC to a professional for diagnosis—possibly to check if the motherboard is faulty. So far, I’ve cleaned the CPU and heatsink, applied a third-party thermal paste, and the PC now runs smoothly for 5–10 hours without any blue screens or crashes. However, if I keep it running overnight, it restarts and goes back to the login screen the next morning.
Could you help me understand what’s causing this intermittent crash? Thanks for your support.
Back then, when it was crashing and restarting quickly, I couldn't access the temperature because the ASUS AI Suite Temperature App wasn't available. The BIOS showed temperatures between 40-60°C, but I don't remember the exact numbers. Now, when it doesn't crash instantly but restarts overnight, checking the temperature in the ASUS AI Suite gives different readings – the motherboard is around 31°C and the CPU is usually 35-40°C, though I've seen it go up to 55-60°C sometimes.
