Additionally, knowing your intended application will be most useful for choosing the right parts to meet your requirements.

Budget aside, the main focus is on the resolution and quality you're comfortable with—or expect. Are you okay with 720p, 1080p, or higher? Would 1440p be ideal? What about recording or streaming gameplay? These factors heavily influence the hardware decisions, especially since CPU and GPU performance matter most. Plus, GPUs tend to be costly and hard to source, so you either settle for what's available or invest more. For example, I spent $850 on an RTX3060ti, thinking it was a smart choice after market disruptions. A tip: I own a 5900X with a 1TB M.2 drive, 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM, and an RTX3060ti. Even with some overclocking, smooth recording stays tricky above 720p. I'm already at 78°C–80°C, and my GPU caps at 90°C before it starts throttling. What speed are you aiming to capture? I successfully recorded titles like Minecraft and Kerbal Space Program at 1080p30 using a Core i5 4440 and GT 635 with 8GB DDR3-1600 via Fraps. Now my 5900X and 2060 Super handle 1440p60 smoothly with OBS, and I can also stream. For software work, a Ryzen 5000 series CPU would be ideal. The 5800X could work if local pricing fits. If the 5000 series is costly, consider a 3000 series such as the 3700X or 3600(X). Ensure you have sufficient RAM—32GB DDR4-3600 is recommended for compilation tasks. If compilation isn’t needed, 16GB DDR4-3200 or even 3000 would suffice.
I mostly work on coding. In my spare time I enjoy playing games just for fun. I don’t record or stream anything. Right now I own a 2017 13 inch MacBook Pro with an I5-8 core and 512 GB storage. I use a boot cam to run games from my external HDD. This will be my first PC build.
