Back in 2007, I recall the system had significantly more RAM than my PS3, and it performed really well on that hardware—running several games smoothly. There weren’t AMD graphics cards back then, though there was at least one early dual-core CPU from AMD. The motherboard eventually failed, so I upgraded to a better PC with a 2200G and later a 1050TI. It still works today, albeit slightly upgraded. Do you think it would run on Windows 98? I also have an old Pentium 1 machine with all original components and Win98 installed.

It was quite an upgrade that time! In the mid-2000s, performance on PCs improved thanks to dual and quad-core processors. Competition between consoles and PCs remained strong. Back then, I used consoles just as often as my PC or laptop. For the last 13 years, finding a console in my home was rare. NFS has always been a go-to car game for me. It seems AMD bought ATi in July 2006, and they launched their first GPU with the HD 2000 series in May 2007. My AMD 64 Socket 754 system stayed in use from 2004 to 2011, which I completely retired by 2012. Were you referring to the first dual-core processor, the Athlon X2? That jump from an X2 to a 2200G was likely a significant performance boost. Regarding GPU transitions, you moved from the X1950GT to the 1050 Ti—great progress! It’s satisfying when PCs achieve such longevity. I took down my Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge setup in December 2023. That rig worked well for nearly 11 years, except the 3770k which needed replacement with an LM and the IHS eventually came off. It should run smoothly on Windows 98. With your Pentium, it still looks like a solid choice for that game.
