Completely new setup from the ground up, using a PSU that appears functional yet only shows one RGB fan during startup.
Hi everyone, I want to start by saying I’ve built PCs before, but it’s been roughly six years since my last project. I ordered all the components and put them together using manuals, guides, and what I already knew. The build is finished, and at first I thought maybe the power supply was the problem—especially since there was a brief flash of blue/green from one of the fans when the PSU was on. But now I’m not so sure. Here are the parts I’m concerned about: GIGABYTE Z790 UD AC LGA 1700 with DDR5, Triple M.2, PCIe 5.0, USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C, Intel Wi-Fi, 2.5GbE LAN, PCIe EZ-Latch, Multi-Key CORSAIR H100x RGB ELITE Liquid CPU Cooler (32 LEDs), iCUE-Ready SP120 RGB ELITE fans, Intel LGA 1700, 1200, 115X, 2066, and AMD AM4 sockets. I also have a full modular power supply from CORSAIR HX1000i (1000W, ATX12V 2.4 / EPS12V 2.92, Platinum certified).
When the PSU powers on, it seems like only the fans and the liquid cooler light up briefly. There’s a quick flash of blue/green on one fan. I tested this by disconnecting the RGB chain that connects directly to the PSU via SATA wires, as well as removing the case’s top I/O 3-pin RGB connector. The flash keeps happening as long as the inline MOBO 3-pin (likely 5V) RGB connector is plugged in—regardless of the others.
This suggests the problem isn’t with the PSU itself, since it appears to be feeding power to the MOBO and then briefly to the fans. But I’m not entirely confident. It’s possible there’s another connection I missed, or something affecting the power delivery to those fans. I’m okay with the fans and cooling system working as long as everything else is fine. If you have any ideas on what might be causing this, or if it could be a short in the liquid cooling path, I’d really appreciate your help. Feel free to share more photos anytime. Thanks!
