Completely confused - countless OCCT mistakes, ASUS optimized BIOS issues, etc.
Hello everyone, thank you for your continued support. I’m dealing with a puzzling situation lately. Suddenly, my computer would freeze unexpectedly, often right after turning on, and the only solution was a hard shutdown. At first, I assumed it was related to the GPU since there was a white LED on the motherboard, so I upgraded my 1080 Ti to a 4070, even though I no longer play games and didn’t want to spend $600. I also reinstalled Windows 11. Neither of these fixes resolved the problem.
Later, I adjusted my BIOS settings, switching the "simple" profile to ASUS OPTIMIZED. The system became stable, which is surprising because it had been working perfectly before. Additionally, when I run OCCT, I encounter 28 million "Power" errors in just five minutes (and my office smells like burning). The performance looks normal, and there are no CPU test errors in OCCT.
Could you advise what I should do with these findings? Is it possible that ASUS is overclocking? Thanks!
Given that the area smells like burning, I would assume the PSU is the source.
Thanks, that's my perspective too - though I'm unsure if I should proceed now that the system is stable with the new Bios profile. After all, this PSU is just a couple of years old at most and seems to be a good one.
I wouldn't risk it, because it might cost more than buying a new power supply.
Are there additional cores with issues? The five, six, and seven cores are all linked to the same CCX... This might indicate a faulty CPU.
