Hello, I’m curious about using ECC/registered RAM with your HP Compact Elite 8300 SFF motherboard and the i5-3470 processor. I don’t mind whether ECC is supported, but just want to know if it’s possible and what the implications are. It’s also about whether it would be a good idea given the cost.
Registered RAM requires a particular memory controller for proper function. If it were unbuffered ECC RAM, everything would work correctly (the additional ECC bit would be disregarded).
