If it reaches BIOS, assume compatibility is likely... but reviewing here it doesn't appear so: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P5S...pDesk_CPU/ It seems this motherboard only supports 90nm and 65nm chips, while the e8500 is 45nm. I haven't verified this myself, but checking a few supported chips suggests this pattern.
