I’m working on a fresh setup that includes a Ryzen 7 7800X3D MOBO, MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI RAM, and a couple of other components. I realized after purchasing the parts that DDR5 RAM typically needs newer motherboards or Intel boards, not just AMD ones. The memory claims to be XMP compatible but isn’t labeled for AMD Expo. This made me confused because MSI said it should work with my board. I’m also checking if the 1, 2, and 4 DIMM slots are correct—only the first two have checkmarks. What does that mean about the fourth slot?

AMD expo is essentially Intel XMP—same concept. Intel created it and made it the standard; AMD simply adopted and rebranded it. There’s no evidence they claim otherwise. Any random RAMs should work with any motherboard as long as their specifications align. A 6000MHz clock speed is quite low, so you can likely get good performance. If the maker confirms it functions, it probably does. Stick to the manufacturer’s instructions, and if it doesn’t perform as advertised, you have the right to request a return or even file a complaint for misleading info.

Intel initiated this project. My worry is about compatibility and stability. I saw reports that this RAM was only tested on Intel boards, but could I install it on a 6000MHz module using Expo/XMP? My second question: why isn’t the fourth DIMM checked? What does that indicate?

They haven't confirmed the 4-dim kit or it doesn't exist. For instance, Kingston Hyper line with 4 DIMM units have been tested, but really for 4 sticks? It's better to wait for 8000 or 9000 series Ryzen and Intel, as they can't reliably get 4 sticks stable above the JEDEC speed of 4800C40. A 2-stick setup is much more stable and faster. I recommend the B650 Gaming Plus or B650 Pro-A instead of the Tomahawk. The cost savings on the board could let us use a 6000C30 kit with EXPO, which would improve frame time in games. Zen appreciates low latency RAM to maintain consistent frame rates.

This product you're interested in is version 4.43.02. It seems it may not work well with Ryzen processors.

I previously purchased it. Could you clarify what version 4.43.02 refers to?

The only compatible version is B6000C40. The model number is listed on the stick labels.
