Well, honestly, this seems like a rather basic question, but Windows 10 remains quite puzzling for me. I’m curious about which applications could work on it. Probably none would, though I’m sure there’s more useful information out there. I’m not planning to download any trial versions and I’m not getting overly excited about the launch. Just wanting to know the facts.

Many programs and games designed for Windows Vista, 7, or 8 typically function well on Windows 10. For systems with older versions, using compatibility settings usually resolves the issues.

Typically, almost all applications designed for Windows 7 and newer should function properly. Games made for Vista continue to work well based on my observations. My confidence is lower for programs targeting XP or earlier versions. Many of my older XP titles and games didn’t run smoothly in Vista/7/8.x, and most fail on Windows 10 as well. If you have older software or games, running a virtual machine might be a practical solution.

Various applications that work on versions 8 and 8.1 should also function on 10. Any issues will be similar to those encountered with earlier releases of Vista.

Windows has remained largely consistent since Vista, offering compatibility options that trace back to Windows 95. Most applications should function unless they were specifically designed with outdated methods. Programs from before Vista are likely to work too, though some might require admin privileges or encounter issues that compatibility settings can't fix.
