Compatibility of Power cables with CableMod 12VHPWR / RTX4070
Upgrading an old PC to a configuration that supports an RTX4070 is on my mind. I noticed that modern cards usually come with a 12VHPWR connector, which connects to two 8-pin power cables. I’m considering using a CableMod 90 Degree Angled Adapter (Variant A) – available at eustore.cablemod.com – but it seems to require a 12-pin power cable for proper connection.
Do I need two 6-pin PCIe power cables instead? Or should I purchase a different type of power cable that matches the adapter’s requirements? Ideally, a white, braided cable would be best, and I hope CableMod can provide one.
For reference, I have an HX850 PSU. Here are the cables I’m looking at:

Gold or Platinum efficiency? Not the best choice.
For Gold efficiency PSU, you must use a custom configurator from CableMod to create a power cable with 2-3 8-pin connectors on one end (directly fits your PSU), while the other end connects to the new 16-pin adapter. The RTX 40-series requires a 16-pin connector, which includes 12 large pins and 4 small ones, whereas the RTX 30-series needs a 12-pin connector and doesn’t match the latest 16-pin version. The CableMod angled adapter supports the 16-pin connector.
If your PSU uses Platinum efficiency, CableMod provides the correct cable for it, such as the Corsair Type 4 cable.

The main difference between modflex and modmesh is that modflex cables are thinner and more flexible, while modmesh cables are thicker, have brighter colors, but are less bendable.
All the PCs I own use CableMod modflex power cables.

My PSU is platinum efficiency. From the options you mentioned, I’d like to choose the modflex cable.

It has two versions: “16-pin to 3 x 8-pin PCI-e” or “16-pin to 2 x 8-pin PCI-e”. Do you know which one fits better for my setup? Or are they both compatible and the choice is just personal preference? In that case, I’m not sure why anyone would pick a 3x8pin when it seems like it uses more connector space.

The number of 8-pin connectors on the other side of the 12VHPWR cable helps decide the wattage rating of your GPU. The guidelines are:
4x 8-pin = 600W = RTX 4090
3x 8-pin = 450W = RTX 4080
2x 8-pin = 300W = RTX 4070 Ti
If you plan to use only the RTX 4070 Ti and not the RTX 4080, choose a cable with 2x 8-pin connectors. Using a cable with 3x 8-pin connectors offers more options for GPU overclocking (RTX 4070 Ti uses 285W) and future upgrades like the RTX 4080 or upcoming RTX 50-series.
We don’t know if the RTX 50-series will use the same connector type or higher wattage. For the RTX 4080, a 1000W PSU is suitable instead of an 850W one.

You can choose Corsair cable as well. Ultimately, it depends on your PC and personal preference regarding the appearance of the cable. I'm currently using Seasonic units without CableMod, but outside of that, I rely on CableMod. In the past, modflex was the only option available. Modmesh followed later. Still, I'm satisfied with CableMod, and besides PSU power cables, I've also purchased several other eye-candy items from them (you can see these in my photos).
