Compatibility of Gigabyte Z97-D3H motherboard with RAM is confirmed.
Hello. I discovered a suitable deal for the G.Skill F3-12800CL10Q-32GBZL (4x8 GB), though I'm uncertain if my old Gigabyte Z97-D3H and i7-4790k can handle it. Will this installation be safe? Could long-term use affect these parts? G.Skill doesn't specify compatibility, but since it's DDR3 at 1600 MHz, why the hesitation?
It's common to encounter RAM not listed in the motherboard specifications. With DDR3, I'm willing to purchase this kit, start with the JEDEC default speed (likely 1333MT/s), and then attempt XMP at 1600MT/s. Keep in mind that overclocking four DIMMs can be more challenging than two, but a set of four matched modules should help minimize instability issues. Run Memtest86 at 1600MT/s to verify system stability.
Thank you for your quick response. I also observed that this specific RAM model isn't included in Pangoly or Gigabyte's Memory Support List. It works with quad-channel, but should function properly with the motherboard's dual-channel setup, according to its guidelines. That makes sense.
In the meantime, the advice on XMP and Memtest86 will still be helpful.
