Hello, thanks for checking out my update. The Xeon E5 1660 (v1) isn't included in the compatibility list for Asus P9X79 Deluxe. I previously used an unlisted CPU on a different board and it functioned. Do you know if this processor fits with the P9X79 Deluxe? Some say it's comparable to a 3960x model. Appreciate the help!!!

This setup is an older configuration, and I favor a CPU from 2012 rather than 2013. The solution might be available at: https://valid.x86.fr/4n306q

why not a 3930k/3960x? those are 2011 cpus and the best thing consumers got in 2011 and the e5 are no different to those aside from being able to run ecc dimms and on consumer boards youll likely be limited to 2rx8 ecc dimms as ive tried 2rx4 on my x58 setup (x58a ud3r) and it didnt work with a w3503 though i guess i should retest now that i have a w3680 no concerns here as consumer boards will run xeons of the same socket just ecc support might be limited to regular x8 dimms so no 2rx4 or other server dimms im curious what kinda retro build you are doing cause imo retro builds are most fun when you overclock the balls off them where everyone else back in the day would never dare to do cause these were expensive as shit and also rampant misinformation on overly conservative safe voltages that cripple overclocks Spoiler this is at 2.3v vdimm and vtt 1.52v btw id like to do a retro x58 build with dual or tri sli gtx 580s and 24gb of ecc ddr3 clocked to 3000+ for now i dont have the expendable cash to go buy some gtx 580s and a better board that doesnt hardwall at 3008 on the outermost channel not to mention the ecc hynix dimms and then theres trying to find a better bin cpu ontop of that as this thing doesnt seem to be able to clock past 2850 stable on 3 sticks as for that sandybridge chip theyre capped to the 21.33x multi so youll need to use bclk strap to oc rams, apparently 125bclk strap also helps with cpu oc something to do with lowering the volt requirements, i think 2800 is possible on sandy bridge but i have really read much on it, all i know is the imcs were downgraded compared to x58 especially on consumer 1155 that has no bclk strap

as long as you have the funds, proceed without hesitation. I’d only expect minor improvements—better binning, more IMCs, and additional CPU cores. These are features you’d notice if you’re planning to buy large quantities for overclocking. The W3670 runs at 4.5g at 1.34v, while the W3680 is around 1.4v but handles higher temps (up to 95°C). Both offer solid stability, with the W3680 supporting at least 2800 stable on triple-channel setups using a good cooler. I’ll likely purchase more when prices are right, aiming for 2900+ triple-channel performance and 5GHz clocks.

running a w3680 on an x58a udr with your x58 gaming rig using an x5650 on a p6x58d-e suggests good compatibility. Check e5 1660 or e5 1680v2 on hwbot for similar consumer boards like the p9x79.
