Compatibility details for MSI B450M and AMD Ryzen 5 5600G.
Hi everyone. I’m trying to verify something, but I need confirmation. I own an MSI B450M PRO-VHD MAX from Amazon, and an AMD Ryzen 5 5700G APU from another Amazon link. I also have a support page for the BIOS on the manufacturer’s site. The main concern is whether these parts can work together without a BIOS update. Since the Ryzen 5 5700G is a 4th generation processor, I’m wondering if this affects compatibility. If it does, what steps could I take to make them function together? Or would I need to return one of them for a replacement? Thanks for your help!
Yes, it is feasible to perform a BIOS update using only a USB stick and the appropriate files, even without a video display.
That board lacks flashback functionality. You'll need a display device (GPU or APU) and a compatible CPU to apply a BIOS update. If your CPU is outdated, you can reach out to AMD and they may provide a loaner unit for the update.
B450 and certain B550 models often require a BIOS upgrade for Zen3 (Ryzen 5000 series). The necessity depends on the production date. My Tuf B550-PLUS started working smoothly in March 2022 after buying a 5900X in September 2021. However, the board was made in January 2022 with the newest BIOS available then. A B450 will definitely benefit from an update, particularly if it's an older model that hasn't been updated before. Edited September 4, 2022 by An0maly_76 Updated further
