Generally, one might think Windows 10 consumes more disk space compared to 8.1. A spinning disk is definitely less efficient with Windows 10 now, but it’s possible the same applies to Windows 8.1 as well. I haven’t personally tested it.

In fact, Win 10 performs more efficiently in terms of resource management. I can launch it smoothly even on older systems such as Core 2 Duo. Spinners aren't suitable for every operating system, not just Win 10. This has always been the main limitation in the system.

I see why you’re questioning the situation. Hard drives are outdated for modern operating systems, but the impact varies. Upgrading to Windows 10 shouldn’t severely slow things down unless your drive is very old or failing. Your friend’s laptop running on a hard drive might still function, though performance could be limited compared to newer storage options.

I don't see any need for it. It should improve if it meets the 4GB memory requirement.
