The i5 Ryzens typically perform better in normal overclocking, often reaching around 3.8 to 4GHz, whereas i5 models can surpass 4GHz more consistently.

i5 7600k is quite capable,
ryzen processors tend to struggle with overclocking,
if you're purchasing a new one, consider the i5 8400.
i have a ryzen 5 1600 and previously achieved a 1500x boost,
so i can say they're not great for overclocking.

best overclocking option is the i5 8400, not the 7600k or ryanze.
the i5 1600 works well for overclocking.
ryzen models generally struggle with this.
if you're purchasing new, consider the i5 8400.
i have a ryzen 5 1600 and experienced issues with higher models.

I already have an i3 7350k build, so I’d probably prefer upgrading to an i5 7600k and overclocking rather than switching to a Ryzen 5 1600. Would it really be worth it for multitasking and rendering? If the difference is around 20%, I’d likely switch to the Ryzen.

I already have an i3 7350k build, so I’d prefer buying an i5 7600k and overclock it rather than switching to a Ryzen 5 1600 full build. Would it really be more efficient for multitasking and rendering to go with the Ryzen instead of fully overclocking the i5 7600k? If it’s better by about 20%, I’d probably switch to a Ryzen and wait for the next generation of Intel or Ryzen.

Here are some stock clocked rendering benchmarks for your review

The i5 will perform better than the ryzen 5, but having 12 threads is advantageous over 4 if your software can take advantage of them
