Comparison of DDR5 speeds: 5200MHz vs 6000MHz
Hey! For your gaming setup, RAM compatibility matters a lot. You mentioned wanting two 2x16 kits at 6000MHz, but later learned you shouldn’t mix different kits even if they look similar. Finding good 2x32GB 6000MHz sticks can be tricky, and you seem to prefer 5200MHz options since you have Corsair fans and a case. Your build uses a 4090 and 13900K, so those speeds should work well. The Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x32 at 5200MHz would fit nicely with your components. Performance gains from higher speeds are usually noticeable in gaming, especially with active cooling.
Results aren't everything; you need RAM overclocking or using the recommended speeds ("max supported"). Running at 5200 MHz is fine, but 16Gb per die limits you to around 5500 MHz. That means DDR5 futureproofing isn't possible with this setup. You really need 7000+ MHz for DDR5 support. Do you actually need 64GB? Most people struggle to push 32GB, let alone 64GB. If you don’t want to overclock, skip DDR5 and go with DDR4 3200/3600 CL16 (better for stability). You won’t gain much performance, and you won’t be futureproof either—unless you’re an idiot upgrading RAM on an older ASUS board when a platform upgrade would be better. Not true for AM5, though; it’s likely similar to AM4, and skipping RAM again wouldn’t help much.
Currently DDR5 speeds don't really matter much, with performance staying fairly consistent from 4800 to 6400. Sometimes lower speeds can even work better. https://www.anandtech.com/show/17078/int...analysis/4
Do you believe it's best to avoid using two distinct kits, even if they're identical? I've observed many projects where people combine multiple sets of sticks together. Plus, it seems like adding another identical kit for future upgrades is something new I only learned recently.
You're right to question the cost—13700k plus 32GB DDR4 and a used 3090 should be around 2.5k. It sounds like you're considering an RTX 4090. If you don’t need 64GB, it might not be worth it. As for your questions, I’m not sure which country you’re referring to, but many people use this setup in the US or Europe for gaming and content creation.
Norway and you might be aware that prices are higher there. I’m using an ASUS TUF OC 4090 card. I can share my PC parts list if you need it. My setup is mainly for gaming—things like CS, COD MW2, RAINBOW SIX SIEGE, and occasionally Microsoft Flight Simulator. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XKQ2fv
