The distinction lies in aspects beyond wattage, such as design, efficiency, or specific features.

The quantity of connectors on the modular face of the PSU varies, along with the number of connectors per cable and the length of those cables.

So my AX1200i stopped working and the only choice left is a brand new AX1600i, right? I’m hoping it’s actually an improvement compared to the AX1200i.

The AX includes a 10-year warranty, meaning if you purchased it more than a decade ago, you may return it for repair through Corsair.

Another possibility comes to mind.
I completely support sending a return for your AX1200i to Corsair and requesting an upgraded RMA, ensuring you still have a PSU available during the wait.
However, if you decide to go ahead with buying a replacement, I’d recommend the platinum-rated HX1500i from NewEgg. It’s currently listed at $400 with a $50 discount using code CSMAYD6, and the 1,000-watt model is just $260.

You're receiving an upgrade via RMA with Corsair. This means you're getting a newer model, as it's six years updated and regarded as one of the top power supplies available.

It's really appreciated that you took the time to provide such a detailed response. I'm currently using an HX1200i and have purchased a PSU. The RMA I received is an AX1600i, and I asked for a newer model if possible. Regarding the weight of the PSU, it seems quite large and heavy. Fortunately, I have a Corsair 1000D super tower case that will fit easily, and the case itself is already fairly heavy.

It seems most cables can be swapped, but there are exceptions for the 24pin models.
