The argument hinges on practical needs versus ideal hardware. For most daily tasks like browsing, word processing, and video editing, Apple Silicon offers strong performance without the need for a full PC upgrade. Your current setup already provides solid capabilities, especially with your RTX 3090 and ample RAM. The main push for upgrading is gaming, but even then, your existing system should suffice. The cost of replacing Macs annually is significant, and unless gaming becomes your primary focus, sticking with PC seems sensible. Your experience suggests you’re comfortable with both platforms and value flexibility.
The MAC mini works fine as a basic device for most users. However, gaming won't be smooth and many applications run significantly quicker on regular desktop hardware—depending on your usage. For memory, Apple keeps the prices high regardless of the GPU you choose, and storage costs are similar to what you'd pay for a top-tier drive.
The basic Mac Mini models are really great deals, just add more RAM and storage to one and you get a powerful machine for games that handle 800-900 frames per second. You might manage with just one upgraded unit and keep the original for any other titles, unless you want to go all-in with a VM and push Windows to its limits.
- Apple - Unable to upgrade or replace pretty much everything. - Most of their products have inadequate cooling, and cheap on some critical components. Watch Luis' videos, they will have a big enough issue to have a recall, but they will make the same exact mistake for 2-3 more generations! - Will the M2 (non Intel based) chips even run windows and be 100% compatible with gaming, etc? - If your just web browsing its fine but you also don't need a 7950x or even the M2 (go back a generation or two if you rally want Apple). I can't see how so many people love these things for things like Photoshop, etc. The Apple version has way more quirks than the windows version and they frequently have issue saving to servers (Adobe's "fix" is to save locally).
