Comparing X16 2.0 and X8 3.0 models.
Hi everyone. To fit the sound card into the top PCI-E x1 port, I had to swap the graphics card from the top PCI-E_1 slot to the bottom PCI_E_2 slot. Now, as shown in the picture, it’s running at PCI-E x8 3.0 mode instead of what I hoped for. I was expecting it to be in x16 mode on the lower slot. My Asus Z97 Pro Gamer board is compatible, and both Unigine tests indicate the performance remains consistent. Am I actually losing speed in the bottom slot? Why is it operating at x8 mode? Should it maintain the same speed and interface as in the top slot? I didn’t do much research, but it seems the performance is similar.
It's not focused on graphics cards specifically, it covers all types of cards. Plugging in your sound card still qualifies as a card.
After reviewing, I believe that's accurate. Please let me know if you'd like to see a diagram of your internal configuration. Overall, it seems that inserting data into the second x16 slot divides the 16 into two groups of eight, even if slot1 is occupied or not.
