The decision hinges on who gets on the list. For me, The Witcher 3 stands out, while Metal Gear Solid V earns a respectable second spot.

They pushed the release quickly to secure it, which is why I no longer focus on who won game of the year.

Hype remains constant, yet popularity doesn't guarantee quality. If it did, Minecraft would be considered the finest creation ever. However, that's not true—its flaws are evident. When it comes to storytelling and side missions, Witcher 3 stands out clearly. Fallout 4’s characters feel outdated and flat. The open world in W3 is superior. From a technical standpoint, execution falls short; even at high frame rates, bugs persist. Constant performance drops and glitches are unacceptable. It's frustrating when developers prioritize low specs over player experience. Fallout 4 struggles with texture quality, shadow rendering, animation issues, and AI that feels sluggish. The reliance on an outdated engine is disappointing, especially given the game’s resource demands. While W3 had its own issues at launch, it was still a solid offering. In Fallout 4, graphics are subpar, animations lack depth, and the dialogue system feels uninspired. Streamlining the skill system helped, but old mechanics remain confusing in an FPS context. The crafting and settlement systems shine, offering a notable strength. Random elements now add value. Still, overall, Fallout 4 falls short compared to Witcher 3. It’s only fair to acknowledge Bethesda’s efforts improved shooting and combat, making the game more engaging. Dialogue remains mediocre, and the VATS system functions well without glitches. The new crafting mechanics are intriguing. If you’re curious—spend at least 20 hours in the game; you’ll notice its shortcomings clearly.
