There has been considerable discussion about the heightened data collection and telemetry in Windows 11 compared to earlier versions. Is there any objective comparison available that evaluates what 11 offers versus 10 in terms of privacy or data handling? Not merely the fundamental OS aspects. This should remain unbiased, focusing on facts rather than opinions. No unnecessary AI content.

Microsoft has never made such a comparison before and won't in the future. I hope there are independent studies available, though they simply don't exist as planned.

there were investigations conducted on win 10 during its beta phase. it's unclear when the final studies concluded, but it seems someone likely examined similar issues for win 11. however, I haven't checked since I stopped using windows after win 10 raised significant privacy concerns.

windows improved its concealment methods as win 10 progressed, making earlier findings more difficult to trace over time. still, a large amount of data remains, though identifying its origin has become more challenging.

if i lose interest, i'll briefly research win 11, but i can't promise it since i'm currently occupied with rl.

Yeah, I recall all that chewing sound. But the beta version of Win 10 wasn't responsible for what ended up in the final release.

Because every government agency relies on Windows, they must prevent data from reaching private companies. Comparing the difficulty of hacking Microsoft versus accessing Windows on an NSA machine highlights the challenge.

Although I can't share specifics, I would argue against saying "at first."
In any instance, this isn't exactly the same operating system as typical consumer products.

nudge nudge wink wink.....
😉
i agree 100%, but this was what was actually made public. i also know a bunch i can't really say either. but thought i'd keep it to what is actually public info
there is a reason i refuse to use win 10 as a daily driver and only use it as a VM with a severely locked down firewall keeping it in check on what it can communicate with. and then only for a few games i can't get working on linux.
even if win 11 is only on par with win 10 as far as privacy is concerned, it's still a no go for me. but copilot does appear to be a big step backwards with it taking constant screenshots of everything and phoning it back to MS.

The main point of this discussion is the excessive criticism and excitement around Win 11's invasiveness, along with a preference for Win 10. I'm just looking for real information. People used to talk about similar topics about ten years ago regarding Win 10 versus earlier versions.
