Hello. You're considering a CPU upgrade. Your current setup has a 3900X and an RTX 3090, which you're using for gaming and streaming. You're looking at moving to the 5900X or 5800X3D models. I'll help you assess the potential benefits without affecting your GPU performance or your decision to stay on the current platform.
The 3000 to 5000 leap was quite substantial. The 5800x3d stands out as the most powerful gaming processor available. Unless you're heavily optimizing your PC for performance, the x3d offers a superior upgrade.
As a 5900X owner I think it’s likely to work, even if it goes beyond what you need (though maybe not for the 3090). For the 5800X3D it really comes down to whether your setup can fully use its capabilities. Even then, rumors suggest AMD will release more 3D AM4 versions soon. Be ready to tweak or upgrade your cooling solution. My 5900X handles heat well with six 120W units and a Scythe Mugen 5 in a Fractal Pop XL Air, but I doubt your 3900X stays cool enough, so check if your current cooler will suffice for either model. Also note that the 5900X is a power consumer, boasting around 200W TDP—likely higher than what a 3900X manages. Keep that in mind. For a 3090 or 5800X3D, aim for at least an 850W-1000W power supply. Purchasing a new CPU doesn't improve your Fortnite skills, just being clear about it. The 3900x is great for streaming more than the 5800x3d, and the 5900x edges out both in performance. The 5800x3D is essentially the top gaming CPU on AM4, offering eight cores—still solid for streaming though you might notice some drops. Your 3900x isn't limiting your gameplay.
I use PBO on my machine with an OC RTX3060ti and notice a gaming peak UPS draw of 450W.
Yes. I have a 850w. Its a problem with the loan li dynamic mini. There is no 1000w psu that fits it
OP, if performance seems problematic, consider checking for RAM instability. Ryzens and B450/B550 boards are sensitive to RAM settings. My Tuf B550-PLUS struggled with certain RAM configurations for months. Using the replacement kit from the board's Qualified Vendor List fixed all my problems, matching the original timing and voltage. The kit I first tried caused issues on another board, but QVL-recommended RAM worked there too. An older B450 board still has unresolved issues with a different kit of the same type. No problem, just focusing on improving in Fortnite without any hardware upgrade.
I'm considering the possibility that the RAM might be the issue. I'm unsure how to confirm this. The one I own is labeled as Ryzen Ready. Which type of RAM would you recommend?
