Comparing the Sonic TX 1300W Titanium and the Asus Thor Platinum II 1200w models.
Hello everyone! I'm looking for guidance on selecting the appropriate PSU for my new build. I have two options: Seasonic 1300w TX Titanium or Asus Rog Thor Platinum II 12OOw. Which one would be better? Please don't suggest an alternative since those are the only models available at the store where I plan to buy. Both prices are the same. Thank you for your attention.
They have other options, but under 1000w isn't an option for me.
It's unusual for one GPU setup to go beyond 1000W, let alone more. Even the latest high-end models like the RTX 4090 24GB use less than 1000W under full load, despite manufacturers suggesting a 1000W power supply. But if you have the budget, wouldn't a 1300W PSU be fine?
Yes, I'm putting in a lot of effort and money isn't an issue for me (happily). After work, the only hobby I have is building a PC. I plan to get a good one for the next 5 to 6 years. Recently, Nvidia suggested 1000w for the 4090, but tomorrow they might ask for 1300w for the 5090 or 6090. We're not sure, but I chose this option to be safe.
I understand, as mentioned earlier, both PSUs are of high quality. The final choice depends on personal preference.
I tend to prefer Seasonic for a few reasons:
- it includes 3 EPS (CPU) connectors, whereas the Thor provides 2
- it delivers an additional 100W
- it has 16 SATA connectors compared to 12 on the Thor
- it offers better 80+ efficiency
Keep in mind that the TX 1300W is 210mm long, while the Thor is 190mm—check if it fits your setup.
Both models come with many extra features beyond what I mentioned.
