Choose the USB Wi-Fi dongle for portability and ease of use, while the PCI Wi-Fi adapter offers more stable performance. Both can work well with LAN, but USB is convenient for quick connections, and PCI provides stronger reliability.

If possible, use LAN whenever possible. Even if it requires running a cable through a wall. It's worth the effort. If hardwiring isn't an option, I'd choose PCI Wi-Fi over USB Wi-Fi. USB adapters usually only work with outdated laptops that have faulty Wi-Fi cards—those dongles cause issues and frequent drops. I'd go with an Asus PCI card because it offers the best native support for all operating systems, including Linux.

I've experienced success with solid options, such as Linux support (Arch managed it more effectively than Windows 10). The inexpensive ones, however, are quite disappointing.
