You're considering a Ryzen 3 upgrade for gaming and general use. It's a good idea if you're playing light games like Minecraft, Dota 2, and Sims 4. For compatibility, you'll want a suitable motherboard and possibly a graphics card soon.

First secure a graphics card, then check the PSU.

He’s using a 6400 with an integrated GPU... The real issue is the limited Intel integrated graphics.

He already owns Intel, so without a graphics card it doesn’t make sense to use Ryzen. His budget seems limited to just CPU or GPU, not both.

You're weighing two options and leaning toward AMD. For a good GPU choice, consider your budget and intended use—whether it's for gaming, streaming, or general tasks. AMD offers strong performance in many cases.

If purchasing a Ryzen 3 and a board isn't feasible right away, the overall cost will likely stay around $200 or similar in other currencies. The 1660 might be a bit tight, but it could still work as a viable option.

I’d consider getting an RX 570 or GTX 1650 Super, but not the GTX 1650. I won’t buy it right now.

It's odd to see the OP realize he needs a quicker CPU while using the iGPU. I understand a basic quad-core processor isn't ideal, but the iGPU seems to be the main issue.

I mostly enjoy Minecraft, so I was thinking about upgrading my CPU. But if the GPU option is also viable, I’d look into it too.
