Looking to enhance your setup while staying on AM4. You’re using three monitors now and want to avoid bottlenecks. The 5700X3D was a great choice at the time, but with the 5900X dropping just $50 less than the 5700X3D, it’s worth considering. Performance details are still emerging until official benchmarks appear, especially regarding the 3D V-cache in these chips. Current specs: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X GIGABYTE X570S, AORUS PRO AX GIGABYTE RTX 3080 MASTER 12G (GV-N3080AORUS M-12GD). Monitors include 1-3440X1440, 1-3840X2160, and 1-1920X1080. Your main use is gaming with some productivity tasks on weekends or from home. Games you enjoy: EFT, BG3 Cities Skylines, Valheim, DRG, Rocket League, Civ, DayZ, and VR titles for OQ2. For gaming purposes, X3D is likely the optimal choice since its 3D cache (up to 100MB) has consistently boosted performance in most tests. However, results can vary depending on the specific game. If your focus is on productivity and you need many cores (like 12), the 5900X would be more suitable.
It depends on how you use your computer. If you rely heavily on cache, I suggest avoiding these models and opting for the 5800X3D instead. Still, the 5700X3D remains a solid choice if you can't secure the 5800X3D.
5800x3D offers a stronger performance upgrade compared to previous models, but if it exceeds $270-300 it may not provide the best value. Switching from 5600x to 5800x3D represents a significant increase for some titles, while others won’t see much benefit. A 5700x3D upgrade will offer only about a 4.1 GHz boost versus the 5800x3D’s 4.45 GHz, which might not be enough. This change is unlikely to greatly improve your monitor experience.
Forget the use case—mostly games involving random tasks, Excel, or productivity during weekends or remote work. Titles include EFT BG3 Cities Skylines, Valheim, DRG, Rocket League, Civ DayZ, and streaming PC VR experiences.
The 5900x isn't suitable for a performance boost in gaming. The best choices available with that connector are an x3D at the end.
Skip the upgrade for gaming boosts. At 1440p, you'll hit GPU limits. Consider spending on a 4070 Ti Super instead. Take some time to explore PBO to get more performance out of your 5600X.
I faced a similar challenge with just one 3440x1440p display. The 5800X3D is currently out of stock and won't return soon. In the used market, prices here in Europe range from €350 to €500. I chose the 5700X3D for €230 new because it significantly reduced frame rate drops and sometimes even boosted them. However, its performance gains with the 3D-V cache are limited by the lower clock speed. I don’t mind it since my main problem was those frame rate fluctuations, which the 5700X3D addressed well. A decent price for a 5700X3D is worth it—especially if you can sell the 5900X now. It made the €50 difference between models appealing until I switched to AM5 or AM6 later on. With my RTX 3080 10GB, the GPU was mostly the bottleneck with the 5900X; a 9070XT would have been more suitable even before moving to newer chips.
