I believe Valve and Epic will create engines that function well on PC. In contrast, I haven't played a recent game using an idTech engine version without issues. As long as Unreal 4 maintains accessible config files similar to UE3, I'm satisfied. Source 2 seems likely to follow suit, though it probably won't require them often.
