Hi there! My Z170 board stopped working a few weeks back after four years of use, and it’s time to upgrade the CPU. I’m thinking about getting an ASUS B550-F or E motherboard paired with a solid Ryzen processor. On October 8th, AMD will release details about their Zen3 CPUs. If they announce them, the first models should hit shelves around November—assuming the pandemic didn’t slow production too much. From what I’ve seen, buying early from the first batch can be tricky, so maybe waiting until Q1 2021 would be safer. That way you could enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 as soon as it drops on November 19th. Regarding the Ryzen 3600/3600X, you could consider getting one after October 8th to use through 2021 and then sell it for a new-generation CPU later. Alternatively, you might prefer delaying your Cyberpunk 2077 experience until Q1 2021, which isn’t ideal for you. I’m also planning an Arctic Freezer 34 as my CPU cooler. My graphics card is a GTX 1080, and I have two 8GB of 3000MHz RAM. Thanks in advance!
It would be wise to wait for Zen 3's release before making a decision. For now, the strx f looks promising, while the strix e seems too expensive. You might also look into the B550 A Pro, B550 Tomahawk, or B550 Aorus Pro—these options are quite solid.
Thanks for your input! I'm planning to observe how the performance compares between the 3000 Series and the newer models. If the improvement isn't significant enough (under 15-20%), I'll opt for a 3600 or 3600x and get a Zen3 around Q1-Q2 2021. I want to make sure I don't miss out on playing CP2077, as I've already pre-ordered it a year ago. My setup includes six fans and two separate ARGB connections, with the F version having only one. A hub would cost almost as much as the gap between F and E versions.
