Okay, so the ryzen 3300x seems like a very good cpu for its price. But there is a catch, in India (where I live) there is another cpu at almost the same price ($10 cheaper) called the ryzen 5 3500. (Just to clarify NOT the 3600 , 3500X, or the 3500u) Now things get really interesting here, the 3500 for those unaware is a 6 cores and 6 threads cpu. (No hyperthreading) The base clock is 3.6 GHz and can be boosted to 4.1. It was launched in Q4 2019, so quite recent. Now choosing one of the two, 3300x or 3500 is becoming a big dilemma. Since 3500 isnt worldwide, there are not many references i can get, but the few that i got suggested them to be almost equal in fps for diff games. But is it worth getting a 4C 8T cpu in 2020 or should i go with the 6C 6T. Some sources say that more physical cores is always better while others say 8T is important for gaming and the ccx layout of 3300x will help outperform the other. 4C will soon become outdated as more and more games utilize more cores and threads, but then again 3300x seems to have a better single core performance. To clarify about my own case, I am looking to mostly game (NO streaming or editing plans) and a bit of moderate usage. I am not always playing the latest and greatest of games. Also an important thing to note I will be using an rx580 or GTX 1650S most probably so will either cpu make a difference? i am starting to think the gpu will be the bottleneck but maybe i am wrong. 3500X also offers a 4.1GHz boost, but retailers seem to be misrepresenting it with claims about a 3500 which supposedly runs slower but only appears in leaks. AMD's internal strategies might be involved, though we lack access to those details. This depends heavily on the game in question. The 3300X provides a similar core count to an Intel CPU with fewer cores, so performance could vary based on the game—especially if it runs smoothly on a 7700K or higher Intel CPU. If both Intel and AMD struggle with high core counts, then 3500X and 3300X offer comparable options.

Review the 7700k versus 9600k options. The answer was clear—just aim for the 3300x range or invest more to reach the 3600.

Based on this benchmark, the 3300X appears to be ~7% quicker in single-threaded tasks such as gaming, whereas the 3500 matches multi-threaded performance. It seems the 3300X outperforms the 3500 in this scenario.

I don't believe a 580 or an 1650 super will change things. Any variation will become noticeable from 2080 onward.

Only an 1650S/RX 580 setup works fine. Earlier, people used 6700k/7700k with GTX 980Tis and then moved to GTX 1080/1080Tis.

I generally prefer extended Minecraft sessions, especially with vanilla and mods, since it's a single-core experience. I also play other games like CSGO, Witcher 3, and GTA 5, and I'm interested in expanding my gaming options if my PC can support it. What do you think about the overall comparison? Also, does your graphics card really have little impact compared to what others say?

Many single-core games run faster on GPU, and having more cores still helps. By 2015 standards, GPU-bound performance matters more than simply counting cores. I believe 3300X remains superior. Even when looking at overall peak performance across all cores, 3500X only offers a 5-7% boost (AMD's SMT can raise per-core performance by up to 40%, assuming the best case). This is compared to 3300X, which struggles with multi-CCX latency issues.
