comparing overclocking in dual channel versus triple channel memory
Hello, your LGA 1366 board runs the Intel DX58 So with an Xeon X5650 overclocked and turbo boosted, you're using a dual-channel setup. I'm curious if switching the RAM channels impacts the overclock stability or how much higher you can push it. Also, would adding a triple channel kit influence performance negatively?
i have used the same board with an i7920 i ram tri-channel setup for years, but recently switched to dual-channel and discovered I can achieve better OC than what works with the tri-channel configurations on some devices. What functions for one person might not work at all for another. The best advice anyone can give is that an overclocker should take things gradually and test carefully.

I discovered that achieving a better OC is easier now compared to the tricky situations with the Tri-channel ones. What works for one person might not work at all for another. I think the performance improvement comes mainly from the benefits of the tri-channel setup. If not, I know the board supports up to 16 GB RAM max, but is that only with four sticks in single channel, or can it handle two 8 GB sticks? Also, would you mind sharing your overclock settings, at least some memory details? Obviously, things can vary a lot between systems, but I just want to check if there are any tweaks I could make on this board. It’s been pretty tough to find good guidelines for this setup. Most people who overclock these CPUs use more expensive boards, lol.
right now i have two 8GB ram sticks, which should allow dual channel usage in slots 0 and 3. I’ll update later after checking my settings so i can confirm. For now, i’m running a fairly basic oci since i’m still using stock air cooling.
