Hello everyone, I’m planning to upgrade my old PC from around 5-6 years ago. It’s a 9800x3d board, but I’ve found motherboard discussions confusing. Many threads on Reddit and videos suggested X670e works well for some features, while B650 seems sufficient for most users. Since current B650 models are often priced similarly to X670e, I’m leaning toward the X670e. I also checked with ChatGPT for a comparison and looked for other opinions.

According to what I read, the MSI board comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, plus a better audio codec. The ASRock model offers more PCIe options—two x4 slots and one 4.0x16—while the MSI has two x4 slots only. My current ASRock setup has been trouble-free, so I prefer that brand. However, the MSI board appears to have extra features that might matter for my needs.

For context, my current build costs around $199 for an AsRock X670e with lightning and Wi-Fi, while my new potential build is listed at $189 for a similar setup (including a 4TB SSD). I’m still unsure about the SSD size on the new board. What do you think?

They’ve gone through some videos first, which isn’t great. The audio format doesn’t matter much since they’re top-notch. There’s no PCIe distinction because both slots are Gen 5 on the MSI board. Unless you grasp what that means, it’s just useless info. You’ll need to use BIOS flashback on these boards to boot with a 9800x3D. Remember this if you’re unsure—follow the steps carefully to avoid damaging the board. Both units work, but the MSI model includes Wi-Fi. You might need a hotspot if your Ethernet fails.

I’ll make sure I follow the guidelines closely. Besides Wi-Fi, other factors like build quality, design, and performance might influence your choice.

I’d pick the model with the most M.2 slots. I currently have three atm, so I need a fourth. Everything else is secondary—VRMs, PCIe 5, gigabit LAN vs 2.5Gb, WiFi and BT are fine unless the slots aren’t equal.
