You're likely to try Fallout for the first time when 4 comes out. I'm curious—do you prefer playing it with a keyboard and mouse or using a controller? Anyone has experience with both?

Experiment with both options. Choose what feels most natural for you. Your comfort is the priority.

I played Fallout 3 using a controller. I prefer KB/M for first-person games and third person games, but only use a controller on platformers or racing games.

Fallout 4 benefited from input from id Software developers, which likely improved the weapon handling compared to earlier games. Regarding controls, I haven’t seen a significant change overall—especially when playing New Vegas on both PS3 and PC. The experience feels fairly consistent between platforms, though the gameplay remains somewhat inconsistent, with weapon mechanics not being particularly strong on either side. Until Fallout 4 arrives with a polished first-person shooting experience, the two versions are essentially comparable.

I favor the controller but my mods in FONV aren't allowing me to use one properly. I usually play KB/M, but the first-person shooter system feels quite lacking. I'm pretty sure it functions with a dice roll instead of precise aiming, as long as you're close enough.

It's great that you can walk around automatically on kb/mouse like in an MMO

Fallout performs poorly with controllers. Controls feel terrible, and aiming is very bad.

It worked well with the controller, but Fallout shows big changes unless you enable cheats.

I began Fallout 3 using a controller initially, but switching to keyboard/mouse made the experience much smoother. I still favor keyboard/mouse, though some players enjoy using a controller.
