Based on online comparisons, the Xeon 1270 V3 appears to outperform the i7-3770 in CPU speed. However, its gaming performance advantage over the non-K i7-3770 remains uncertain. Some Xeon processors may not deliver optimal results in gaming scenarios. With today’s market prices, replacing components might be a viable option. Your setup uses a GTX 1070 and you’re aiming to maximize GPU potential. Motherboard overclocking isn’t supported.

so this is the story with consumer xeons, they basicly copy paste add ecc support and downclock the shit outa them, i just realized that they use different sockets, your looking at a lga1150 for xeon, and the lga1155 for the i7, i think the v2's use the lga1155

The 1270 V2 remains the winner by a tiny margin. You can choose the 3770 or the 1270; the 1280 offers only about 100 MHz more, which usually adds around 1-3 frames per second in games.

They mentioned using an 1155, so they're searching for that part. An E3-1280 is marginally quicker than the 1270 V2. Prices appear similar, though the 1280 seems slightly more affordable.

Passmark claims the 1280 model underperforms, but that's incorrect—it actually runs at a higher 100MHz clock speed.
