Comparing Intel i7-1165G7 Iris Xe and mx350 models
Hi, I have a question.
I’m considering purchasing a new laptop and am unsure if the Intel i71165g7’s Iris Xe or the MX 350 is superior.
Since I don’t play games much but will do some light editing and productivity work, a good GPU would be ideal.
I’ve noticed that the Iris Xe performs similarly to the MX 350 in terms of productivity. Is that accurate?
PS. There’s also another option with an MX450, which is better than the Iris Xe in productivity, but it’s more expensive (about 50% more) and has 8 GB of RAM instead of the 16 in the cheaper Intel Xe model. I thought more RAM would matter more, so I should opt for 16 GB instead of what seems to be a 30% difference in GPU performance.
My main concern is which one offers better productivity between the MX 350 and the Intel Iris Xe?
The basic choice depends on your needs, but comparing the Intel i7 1165G7 Iris Xe and the MX350 reveals different strengths.
Why are you focusing on a 4c/8t CPU when productivity matters? Also, please share only the benchmarks for the graphics you found.
You're likely correct about the CPU cores, but I'm looking for something thin and light, which is why I'm stuck with a basic i7. I bought one with an extra Xe core, and so far it's performing well. As you mentioned, the CPU isn't powerful enough, so I didn't need much graphics power either—since I was planning to edit 1080p videos. Thanks for your support!
In general: this Intel Xe iGPU is comparable to the mX350. However, the mX350's driver tends to be more optimized for gaming, which isn't a major concern here since you're prioritizing productivity. The Xe iGPU benefits significantly from dual-channel RAM, and this likely enhances its performance slightly. Only when it comes to dual-channel RAM does the mX350 edge out. If your model uses single-channel RAM, I recommend sticking with the mX350 for better results.
Also: consider the cooling system, particularly in slim or lightweight laptops. Details like the number of fans, heat pipes, and their speed are often hard to find.
the pc comes with dual channel 16 gb ram (8 and 8), as mentioned, i purchased it with an iris xe and it has been working well so far. it doesn’t experience much thermal throttling during long sessions, though the airflow from the fans does get warm. maybe an mx350 would have handled it better, I’m not sure... thanks for your response.
