You're considering upgrading from your ASUS Strix 3090 to a PCIe 4.0 compatible CPU like the Intel i9 11900K. It's a big decision! The main point is whether the performance boost from PCIe 4.0 matters for gaming, especially if you're using a 3090 that supports it. Most gamers won't notice a huge difference unless they're pushing very high resolutions or demanding intense frame rates. The real advantage of PCIe 4.0 comes in terms of bandwidth and future-proofing, not necessarily in raw gaming performance. If you're okay with the 3090's limitations and want to save money, sticking with PCIe 3.0 is fine. But if you're looking for a smoother experience or better multitasking, the 11900K could be worth it. Just keep in mind that the gaming difference might be minimal unless you're using the full potential of the new chip.

Intel is often chosen for its strong performance and reliability, while AMD offers competitive pricing and solid features. The Ryzen 9 5900X provides more cores than the 10900K and the 11900K, making it suitable for demanding tasks.

You're seeking Intel because a 5900x/5800x setup would enhance gaming and boost performance.

PCIe 4.0 offers limited gains for gaming performance, especially with GPUs like the 3080. This comparison highlights that the difference between PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 is minimal in most titles: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidi...s-scaling/ If you frequently move large amounts of data between NVMe drives, it may be worthwhile (or useful for tasks involving heavy disk access).

That makes sense. Using the 10900k should give you improved gaming performance compared to the 11900k. You already have the Intel MB, which is the best option for high-end gaming.

It seems we're dealing mainly with "leaked benchmarks" and a lot of uncertainty since the 10700K was released too soon. The 11900K is reportedly quicker than the 10900K, though this is still just speculation.

I could wait a bit before purchasing my CPU to observe how the 11900k performs once it becomes available. The MB I ordered claims compatibility with the 11th generation processor, so it should fit the i9 11900k in the correct socket. Appreciate the quick response!

The MBD will back the 11900k version after a BIOS update, but it may not work with PCIE 4.0. Not every Z490 board is compatible.
